Like much of Western North Carolina, Black Mountain has a long history of arts, crafts, furniture, and music. The area offers many options to enjoy the outdoors including walking, hiking and biking trails, camping, lakes, streams, and waterfalls. The town has a beautiful town square and many galleries, antique stores, and plenty of cafes and restaurants.

These are a few of our favorites:

Cup of Jomo (Now in 107 Market & Deli)

Locally roasted coffee and pastries an easy mile walk from the house.

Dynamite Roasters

One of the area’s largest distributors of organic, fair trade beans, roasted in house. Dynamite is worth a short drive to check out if you are a coffee nut.

Cousins Cuban Cafe

An excellent choice for breakfast or lunch, Cousins Cuban is a great spot for healthy bowls, pressed sandwiches, Cuban pastries, and coffee. The food is so authentic and we’ve never had a bad experience!

Foothills Grange

Great for a casual lunch or dinner with the family, Foothills takes locally sourced meats / dairy and serves up amazing food all day long. If you’d rather take something home to grill yourself, the nearby butcher shop has got you covered.

Fresh Wood Fired Pizza

Every town needs a solid pizza spot. FWF Pizza offers dine in or takeout, and while the pizza is amazing, so are the salads, sandwiches, and other Italian classics.

Que Sera / Tayloe’s Oyster Bar

These two sister restaurants are side by side, share a menu, and provide an option for a nicer dinner on a date night.

Trail Head Restaurant

Trailhead has a little something for everyone with a solid draft beer list, small plates, salads, sandwiches, and larger entrees, it a great option for families at lunch or dinner time.

Black Mountain Natural Foods

A charming, local grocery. This small store has farmer’s market items and local brands.

The Hop

For locally churned ice cream, The Hop has been an Asheville institution for decades.

And here are a few of our favorite things to do...

Walk Lake Tomahawk

Less than a mile from this house, this small lake is a great place to walk around and enjoy the views of the mountains.

Visit Montreat

A very short drive up the road, you’ll find the secluded cove of Montreat. There are many trails/walking paths throughout the area, an amazing playground (Robert Lake Park), and another small lake (Lake Susan) with an easy trail to follow around.

Hike in Montreat Wilderness

If you’re looking to get out of town and into the woods, the Graybeard Trailhead is just beyond the town of Montreat. The interconnected trail system offers a variety of mileage and levels of difficulty.

From Black Mountain, you are a quick 15 minute drive into Asheville. While there are hundreds of cafes and restaurants to choose from in town, we’ve provided a narrow list of some of our favorites. This list is full of places that we have come to know and love, but we hope you do your own exploring and find your own favorites too!
