welcome to our mountain retreat
Discover an original craftsman-era cottage in the charming town of Black Mountain. Come here for a true mountain getaway. Sit in the rocking chairs on the front porch while you plan your day. Walk into town to explore the shops and restaurants that Black Mountain has to offer, or drive 15 minutes to Asheville to take in the arts and culture that makes this area so special. If you’re more interested in getting out of town, the Graybeard Mountain Trailhead is less than a 10 minute drive from the house and offers access to short, medium, and long hikes in the Montreat Wilderness Area, where all told, there are over 40 miles of trails.
The Mountain Laurel is a two story, 4 bedroom / 2 bathroom cottage on a quiet neighborhood street only a half a mile from town. The home has two bedrooms with queen beds and two others with full beds. There is a full bathroom on each floor, including one with a large soaking tub. The cozy living room has a working wood fired stove, a full dining room, a well-appointed kitchen, and a sunroom that overlooks a large backyard.
The vintage cottage was built in the 1930s, and we’ve preserved as many of the original features as possible. The hardwood floors creak and the windows occasionally stick. The backyard still has remnants of an old garage that has been transformed into one of the most magical bits of the property. The historic character of this house is what makes it special and we wouldn’t want to change a thing.
While the charm remains, The Mountain Laurel does have some modern amenities including wifi, air conditioning (via 3 mini splits), and a washer/dryer. For rainy days, there is a television (Smart TV) with Netflix, Hulu, Prime, and You Tube TV. We've also provided playing cards and our favorite board games.
We welcome you to come visit, breathe the mountain air, and enjoy our small town.
